LittleBox's Role

Web development

Clyde’s Restaurant Group is a Washington, D.C.-based family of restaurants. Over the decades, the group has expanded to include a diverse collection of venues, each with its own distinct identity. Their web presence needed to reflect both the cohesive parent brand and the individual character of each restaurant.

The challenge

In partnership with DMI, we were tasked with designing and building a Drupal 8 multisite platform for Clyde’s and its satellite restaurants, with the overarching goal of creating a unified digital system that could serve as a centralized brand hub while simultaneously supporting unique styling and content for each individual restaurant. Beyond the technical architecture, a key requirement was to establish a flexible editorial workflow that non-technical staff could easily manage, ensuring efficient content updates while ultimately delivering a polished, seamless guest-facing experience for all dining customers.

Our solution

Multi-site architecture

The platform was successfully built on a Drupal 8 multisite architecture, enabling Clyde’s to operate its entire network of restaurant sites from a single, centralized platform. This powerful system uses a shared codebase paired with per-site theming, effectively balancing brand consistency across all locations with the unique individuality required for each restaurant. Ultimately, this approach led to streamlined content management, allowing Clyde’s staff to easily update menus, promotions, and events across all locations efficiently.

Digital menus

We implemented a menu rendering engine that styled digital menus to closely resemble printed, in-restaurant menus. This allowed for frequent updates without compromising the high-end brand aesthetic. The digital menus menus were equally accessible on desktop and mobile, ensuring a cohesive experience across all devices.

Reservations & guest services

The project included the seamless integration of a reservation system, which now provides guests with real-time booking options across all of the restaurants. To further enhance guest relations, we implemented a user feedback and review module, giving Clyde’s direct insight into guest experiences, and created dedicated internal workflows to ensure that all guest comments and reviews could be tracked and efficiently managed by the team.

Technical highlights

  • Drupal 8 custom build, optimized for multi-tenant use.
  • Component-based theming to allow variation between restaurants while maintaining brand integrity.
  • Integration with third-party reservation APIs for live table availability.
  • Custom menu conversion system to manage frequent updates and preserve design fidelity.

Key outcomes

The result was a modernized digital presence for Clyde’s Restaurant Group that unified their portfolio of restaurants under one system while still respecting each venue’s unique identity. Guests could browse menus, book tables, and leave feedback seamlessly, while Clyde’s staff gained a powerful and maintainable content platform. The multisite build provided long-term scalability, ensuring the group could add new restaurants or update existing ones without rebuilding the entire system.
